Our 2019 show in French is Moli\u00e8re\u2019s The Miser<\/i> (L’Avare<\/i>).<\/p>\n

The Miser<\/i> is a five-act comedy in prose that was first performed on September 9, 1668 at the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Palais-Royal<\/a> in Paris. It is loosely based on the Latin comedy\u00a0Aulularia<\/em><\/a> (\u201cThe Little Pot\u201d or \u201cThe Pot of Gold\u201d) by Plautus<\/a>, and revolves around the miserly widower Harpagon, the plans for his marriage and those of his daughter and his son, and his all-consuming desire to keep his wealth safe.<\/p>\n

We are giving two performances, on Friday and Saturday, April 12 & 13, 2019, at 8 PM at the George Ignatieff Theatre on the downtown campus of the University of Toronto. Printed copies of the one-page summary in English (also available on-line below) as well as projected surtitles in English will be available at both shows. You can purchase tickets on-line now<\/a>, with seats selected after purchase and starting the week of March 4, 2019 by our box office staff; or you will be able to contact our box office by telephone<\/a> weekdays 11 AM \u2013 5 PM starting April 1, 2019. Update April 12 10 AM:<\/em><\/strong> we are sold out for both evening performances. There may be a few tickets available at the door for purchase by cash only. <\/em>Tickets, if any remain, will also be available at the door on the nights of the performances with payment by cash only.<\/p>\n
